Reports To: General Manager

Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the finance department, ensuring strong financial health and strategic growth. At a smaller company like Bella Coola Heli Sports, this role includes financial modeling, risk management, and providing expert financial guidance to the Management Team.
Additionally, the Controller manages bookkeeping, cash flow, and inventory across multiple lodges, ensuring efficient financial operations. This position requires a detail-oriented financial leader with experience in hospitality finance, accounting, and financial strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

<ul>
<li>Full-cycle bookkeeping</li>
<li>Prepare monthly financial statements for the Ownership group</li>
<li>Prepare annual budget document in cooperation with department heads</li>
<li>Oversee AR/Sales reporting software and related financial reporting</li>
<li>Ensure that AP are processed in a timely manner and that all reasonable discounts are taken</li>
<li>Manage all Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition</li>
<li>Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed</li>
<li>Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis</li>
<li>Maintain an orderly accounting filing system</li>
<li>Manage and comply with industry and government reporting requirements and tax filings</li>
<li>Manage relationship with external auditors</li>
<li>Support month-end and year-end close process</li>
<li>Ensure quality control over all financial transactions and financial reporting</li>
</ul>

Additional Responsibilities

<ul>
<li>Coordinate and direct the preparation of budgets and rolling financial forecasts, including variance reporting</li>
<li>Analysis and modelling for business development opportunities</li>
<li>Board level reporting/analysis</li>
</ul>

Candidate Requirements

<ul>
<li>Proven working experience as a Controller/Accountant</li>
<li>Expert/advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills</li>
<li>5+ years of experience working in industry, an accounting firm, or a combination of both</li>
<li>CPA designation strongly recommended</li>
<li>Excellent with various accounting software and administering systems</li>
</ul>

Working Conditions

The ideal candidate will be based in our Whistler head office five days per week. There is potential for a hybrid role, with up to two days of remote work once fully established within the company. This role requires travel as needed to company properties, as well as to conduct and advise on off-site business. Periodic evening and weekend work may also be required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, discretion, critical thinking, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills. They should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strategic planning abilities. Exceptional communication skills—clear, effective, and timely—are essential. Maintaining confidentiality and fostering professional relationships with peers is a must.
