Community.
Conservation.
Climate.
We’re fortunate to live, work, and play in the mountains. But with great powder comes great responsibility. We’re committed to protecting this incredible environment, supporting the well-being of our local communities, and reducing our carbon footprint. The Legacy Fund, powered by a 2% guest sustainability surcharge, transforms our commitment and your adventures into meaningful action.
Our approach is collaborative and locally focused. We partner with industry leaders, community stakeholders, and highly effective social and environmental organizations to maximize our impact. In collaboration with community leaders, an independent committee of BCHS leadership directs our funding toward projects that champion our core pillars: community, conservation, and climate.
If you have an initiative that resonates with these pillars, we invite you to apply for funding.
Focusing on Community
Community is the driving force of our mission. We’re committed to nurturing the communities that support us—from our local neighbors and First Nations communities to our colleagues, service providers, guests, and the mountain sports family. The Legacy Fund collaborates with these communities, targeting areas of greatest impact. Our support spans health and wellness initiatives, arts and culture programs, educational scholarships, public safety measures, and local economic development.
We acknowledge that Bella Coola Heli Sports operates on the unceded territories of eight First Nations: Nuxalk Nation, Tŝilhqot’in Nation, Ulkatcho First Nation, Heiltsuk Nation, We Wai Kai Nation, Wuikinuxw Nation, Xwemalhkwu (Homalco) First Nation, and Da’naxda’xw/Awaetlala First Nation. Recognizing the historical injustices perpetrated over time, we are committed to empowering and uplifting these communities.
Our funding supports a diverse range of initiatives:
- We contribute to HeliCat Canada’s Sustainability Fund, advancing avalanche research, education, and mental health programs for guides.
- We support local culture and environmental preservation through the Nuxalk Coastal Guardians and Clellamin Family Totem Project.
- Our community engagement extends to sponsoring events like the Bella Coola Rodeo, Bella Coola Valley Music Festival, and local sports teams, as well as providing educational scholarships for youth.
- Enhancing local attractions by funding the construction, oversight, and guidance for the Via Ferrata and providing an equipment grant to the Tweedsmuir Ski Club. These investments enhance local recreation and strengthen our community’s future.
- Following the leadership of the Commercial Bear Viewing Association, we promote wildlife coexistence by assisting with bear-aware electric fencing installation and fruit tree-gleaning projects.
- Our partnerships include collaborating with the Power to Be Foundation on inclusive adventure programs and providing gear, training, and leadership support to Bella Coola Search and Rescue.
